It's almost Fall, time for Pumpkin Ale!

First post in new blog, so what do we discuss?

Beer. Pumpkin Beer.

I'm a Dogfish Head fan myself, but Whole Hog, Sam Adams and Traveler's will grace my fridge as well over the next 60 days.

I love Fall...

  2. Thanks Jay. I am a terrible blogger. The absolute worst and I will never get it right I'm afraid.

That particular prop is a cheap foam skull from Michael's that I sculpted over using Creative Paperclay, a brand I've kind of settled on and stocked up on and used extensively on props for this year's haunt...which never came to fruition. I'm proud of that prop because in building it I had a couple breakthroughs that will influence how I make things moving forward. It's been a nagging thing for me not to be another in a long line of folks that just mimic Pumpkinrot. He's too good for that, deserves better than that...I strive to be better than that.

I think this year's haunt would have been a huge step in that direction. A little Rot, a little Burton, a hint of Giger...if you are gonna have influences go for the bigs I suppose.

Unfortunately, tragically...one of my sister in laws suffered a severe allergic reaction to medication, an antibiotic apparently, went into Anaphylactic Shock and was tragically lost right around the time I usually set up. In truth I would have been finishing up specific components of the haunt the morning after she was sent via helicopter to the best hospital in the area for what she needed. Of course...everything stopped when that happened. So the haunt as designed...has a few pieces that are 48 hours or so from completion. At least I know what next year's theme will be. I guess after me getting sick last year and this year's tragedy...next year better be great after 3 years of building.

Everything is evolved from this Pumpkin Witch character who is making a play for dominance of the Devils tool known as Ragged Grin. Ragged Grin has always been overseen by a Lieutenant in the Devils army known as Raggatin. The witch, Pumpkin, the most powerful sister of the Skru Coven has been set free from captivity by her sisters and means to "kill" Raggatin by harvesting more human souls than any one being has ever done in Satan's service. This would have set up next year as the "death" and subsequent resurrection of the dark lord Raggatin in what I envisioned as a 3 sectioned haunt...the Death, Resurrection and Reaffirmaton of the true caretaker of Ragged Grin. But that will be in two years...maybe 3. We shall see.
